This is an amateur film which captures a competition that was set up to test the members of the Morley Air Raid Precautions Patrol in Yorkshire. Each ward of this former borough was pitted against the other and their skills assessed. Tasks included firefighting and looking for possible German invaders.
The ARP were made up of local people such as textile mill employees, shopkeepers and school teachers, the Cup was named after County Councillor J.S. Binks, Chief Air Raid Warden for the Borough of Morley.
The film opens at a field where many people have gathered to watch the day's events. A firefighting team have negotiated their way through sparks and fires to get to waiting casualties on the other side of the field. They then carry them back on stretchers, carefully placing each person on the ground.
Members of the ARP then have to find and arrest a (fake) German Paratrooper, securing him so that he cannot run away. The different teams then go on parade in front of the crowd before they stand to attention and are inspected by a regional officer. The film closes with the winning team being presented with the cup.
