This film contains footage of the Jowett 1952 prototype of Model CD on a driving trial in the Swiss Alps. Filmed in Switzerland, this is a record of a proving test run of the prototype CD model built by Jowett Cars Ltd at Idle in Bradford, 1952. For this trip over the Alpine mountains, the CD was converted to left-hand drive.
The popular Jowett Bradford CC van/estate car and light truck was produced between 1947 and 1953. Intended as its successor, the prototype CD model as filmed never went into production prior to the company ceasing production in 1953.
The film begins with the car's driver, Roy Lunn, Jowett's chief designer, pulling into a Shell petrol station forecourt. The attendant comes over and fills the car for him from the pump.
There are shots of the car taken from different angles around the forecourt and then the car drives off.
The journey takes the car along winding, snowy Alpine passes, up steep roads, across bridges, and along beside lakes and mountains that have snow on them. At one stage there is a shot of a road sign and the name `Julier' is visible; the car continues along through more countryside.
There is a shot taken from a hill beside the road looking down onto the Model CD as it slowly passes a truck on the road.
As the car continues along the foothills of the mountains the shots are taken from various angles; from the side of the road and from the front and rear of the car.
