A film from the Jowett Car Club collection that chronicles the clubs annual rally of Jowett Automobiles including famous models such as 'Jupiter' and 'Spirit'. The cars were first built in 1906 by a small engineering firm based in Bradford owned by brothers William and Benjamin Jowett. In 1954 production stopped, but these classic cars have not disappeared as they have been entered in both national and international car rallies such as this club rally taking place in Cheltenham and Paxton.
The film opens with a shot of a woman writing `I.J.R. Cheltenham 1973' on a blackboard.
The next scene starts in front of a 1930s car which is parked on the exhibition grounds. The camera zooms in to look at the Jowett Car Club sticker in the front window.
There is a sign for the Cotswold Grange Hotel, then the camera pans to the left and there are classic cars visible in the car park behind. A man has a bucket and a cloth and is cleaning his car. There are more shots of the various cars in the exhibition grounds. Men, women and children wander around looking at all of the cars as some of the car owners are fixing and cleaning their cars and talking to the visitors.
In a separate shot is a sign for a `Bristol' tractor from the 1930s and this is followed by a few shots of the machine.
There are a couple of shots of children sitting in the some of the cars and following this are shots of the engines and the metal car badges. More cars are laid out in rows on the grass, and people stand around in the sun.
Some of the owners have machines that have been stripped down to the engines and internal parts and some spectators stand and look at the parts.
There is a shot of a board giving information about the technical specifications for some of the cars and then the shot cuts to a stall that has been set up and some men are selling Jowett Car Club merchandise.
Large amounts of spectators have lined up on both sides of a road to watch a line of cars drive along the road, stop their car in front of the chairman, and receive a prize and a hand shake from him.
A man stands at a table and puts together a mini version of a classic car in front of spectators.
In another scene the Mayor arrives at a big estate house. There is a large group of men and women in formal wear waiting at the steps of the estate and the camera takes panning shots around the front of the building to capture its size. The people all walk into the building.
A car has a sign leaning against the front of it. It reads `Jowett Car Club Golden Jubilee International Jowett Rally. Then there are shots of more of the classic cars lined up in the exhibition grounds.
The usual car trails are underway, and many cars put their cars and driving skills to the test by having to drive around cones, drive into tight spaces and do it in the quickest time.
A table has been laid out in the car park and a woman is cutting a cake with car decorations around the side. Another man hands the winning drivers a trophy and what looks like a slice of cake.
Title-The End.
This film opens with a sign for Paxton against a backdrop of the countryside. Moving away from the sign, the science area around the river can be seen including flowers that are in the vicinity. There are some lingering shots of what appear to be lilac flowers and also scenes of a garden.
Some men and women sit outside talking. There are more shots of a house and garden and more people arrive and talk to the people already in the garden. Some birds land in the garden beside the water dish.
The final shots are taken from the point of view of the driver as a car drives along an open road behind another vehicle. There are a couple of shots taken from out of the back window.
The woman writes `The End' on a blackboard.
