A film from the Jowett Car Club collection that chronicles the club's fourth annual rally of Jowett Automobiles including famous models such as 'Jupiter' and 'Spirit'. The cars were first built in 1906 by a small engineering firm based in Bradford owned by brothers William and Benjamin Jowett. In 1954 production stopped, but these classic cars have not disappeared as they have been entered in both national and international car rallies, many such as this club rally taking place in Yorkshire.
Title-International Jowett Rally 24th and 25th May 1969.
The film opens with a long shot taken from a moving car on its way to the rally. A large green park comes in to view; this will be the exhibition field.
A shot from above looking down shows the busy rally site filled with neatly parked classic cars.
The next scene captures the owners and car enthusiasts gathering around the different models such as the Jupiter model, where they talk and look at the cars. Some of the owners are fixing car parts and cleaning their cars as they wait on an inspection by the judges.
In the next scene a dinner dance is being held as part of this two-day event. The interior shots are too underexposed to make out any real detail.
On the Sunday the car trials take place. The drivers and cars are put through their paces as they have to reverse around poles and in circles and finally park in small assigned spaces.
