From the Jowett Car Club collection, this film chronicles the club's third annual rally of Jowett Automobiles including famous models such as 'Jupiter' and 'Spirit'. The cars were first built in 1906 by a small engineering firm based in Bradford owned by brothers William and Benjamin Jowett, in 1954 production stopped but these classic cars have not disappeared as they have been entered in both national and international car rallies, many such as this club rally...
From the Jowett Car Club collection, this film chronicles the club's third annual rally of Jowett Automobiles including famous models such as 'Jupiter' and 'Spirit'. The cars were first built in 1906 by a small engineering firm based in Bradford owned by brothers William and Benjamin Jowett, in 1954 production stopped but these classic cars have not disappeared as they have been entered in both national and international car rallies, many such as this club rally taking place in Yorkshire.
This film opens with shots of the front of some Jowett cars and their bonnet badges; one of them is on a `Jupiter' car a sporty model from the 1950s.
In the next scene there are rows of old-style cars in a courtyard car park and then the shot goes back to the field where there is another exhibition of cars. People mingle, look at car parts and cars on show and car owners fix and polish their cars. There are shots of the engines of some of the cars as well as the front grills and a clear reflection in a hub cap. There are more cars lined up in a car park; many shots of the cars. There is a tiny car model put beside the full size version.

There are shots taken from the back of a car facing onto a car driving behind it; it passes out the car with the camera and drives off. There is a sign for Harrogate and then shots from the point-of-view of the driver as it goes along the road to Harrogate while following other cars.
The big park in centre of Harrogate is visible as the car drives along. Again from the point-of-view of the driver, there are shots of the lead cars driving down a hill in Harrogate and into a car park.

This scene opens with a sign which reads `Jowett Car Club 1923'. This is followed by a shot of a golden retriever with a sign around its neck which reads `Goldie Wright'; then it runs off. A man stands smiling at the camera; he has a sign which reads `A.Wright'. An older man stands beside a car with the sign `R. Worn , Chairman'. In an underexposed shot a man stands talking and smiling at the camera, another man doesn't look very happy but stands for the camera. Another man holds a sign `W. Meneely, Southern Section Chairman', Dick Fox holds a sign and smiles, F.G. Green, Vice President stands and smiles. K. Lees Comp Sec stands and poses for the camera, G. Mitchell the editor stands against a car. The final shot in this scene is of a toddler sitting in a push chair and smiling at the camera.

A shot is taken from above looking down onto a car park with rows of cars and some men; there is a brief shot of a mini car model and then shots from above looking down onto men cleaning their cars.
A very old car, possibly from the late 19th century, drives along the car park, parks and the owner uses a type of wrench on the back of it.
There are many more shots of all types of cars driving along, men, women and children wander around the exhibitions, car owners have their car bonnets up, there are men under some cars and shots of the engines.
There are shots of a Scottish Section exhibition and a box with haggis in it. Following this are shots of the chairman making a speech to the spectators and then car drivers getting trophies; they all walk up and shake hands. This is followed by more shots of cars and their owners.
The next scene is in a function room of some sort. Lots of men and women are attending a meal. Men and women of all ages sit around talking and smoking. The camera pans around to watch everyone. At one point the guests all bring tickets up to a table and get a prize each. Some men and women try on each other's coats. One woman dances with one of the men while wearing an anorak with the hood up.
The next shot is of the car park and bar sign. There are cars parked in the car park and men are fixing their cars and standing around chatting. An unseen man holds up his grease-covered hands to the camera.
Shot from above looking down onto a car park and a van in it; a woman stands behind her van and dries her dog off with a towel and he jumps up on a man.

There is an opening shot of the mini car beside the full size cars. This is followed by shots of cars parked and owners standing around. Men and women stand around watching the cars and the drivers. Cars of all shapes, sizes and ages take part in the car trials; they have to drive around posts that are position very near to each other, they also do tight turns around some of them.
A young man is under a car in a pair of overalls; he comes out and gives something to the man that is watching him. They hold onto a long pipe while one of them hammers at it.
The Chairman gives tins of oil to the winners; they come up and shake his hand.
In the final few shots; the camera man is standing on a frame constructed in the back of a car. He has a camera in his hand and he films the crowd. The drivers and the judges wave at the camera and car as it drives away.
