A BBC film with commentary by Bertram Mycock, this film focuses on the success of Rowntrees and its overseas markets, specifically relating to Smarties and Kit Kat products.
The film begins with a large vat in which chocolate is blended. A man holds a Smartie in the palm of his hand, and the camera zooms out to reveal the presenter in front of a conveyor belt of Smarties. Here, factory workers check the product for faulty candies.
The chocolate is blended in large vats before it is poured into moulds. Chocolate sheets are broken up, and the Smarties are spun in a large container in order to make the candies hard. The Smarties are poured out of a large drum and then coated with sugar in large, spinning drums. There is additional footage of the factory and its workers. "Checkers" get rid of any imperfect sweets. Later, the Smarties are mechanically packaged.
The next scene features an interview with Mr. Russell, the Export Manager at Rowntrees. He shows various examples of Rowntree products and their packages for specific overseas markets, including Smarties. There are problems with certain products exported by Rowntrees, such as Kit Kats melting in warmer climates. This problem is discussed. Following this is footage of the factory process during which Kit Kats are produced. Kit Kat is the company's most important overseas export.

There are rows of Kit Kat's biscuit centre on a conveyor belt. Later, boxes of the finished product are loaded into container lorries which can be seen leaving the Rowntree factory.
Finally, there is an interview with the chairman of Rowntrees. He discusses the process involved in setting up factories in five other countries as well as outlines the rationale for this.
