Made by Mr. Chatburn, this film documents the Chatburn family's visit to Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay. This well-shot film includes scenic footage of Whitby and the surrounding area as well as North Sea Fishing boats and fishermen in Whitby Harbour. The film begins with a shot of a car driving down a road in the countryside. Next, a little boy, the filmmaker's son, stands next to a sigh for Hutton le Hole. Following this are scenic views of the approach to Whitby including views of the sea from the cliff road and shots of the Beach Cliff Hotel. The little boy is seated on a chair in the hotel sitting room where there are sofas and a television for the guests. The main features of Whitby can be seen including the statue dedicated to Captain Cook, the pier, promenade, city centre, and harbour. The harbour is full of boats. Following this are scenes of the family as they play on the grass at an area overlooking the sea. The boy plays with the little baby who is sitting in a pram. Next are good shots of the Abbey ruins on a clear and sunny day. This is followed by an amusement ride, a merry-go-round which on which the little boy rides. The weather has become quite foggy. Later, the family is on the beach, and the little boy is digging sand castles and playing. The mother and her two children look at a large map advertising the North Eastern Railways. The family get on a train and make their way to Robin Hood's Bay. There is footage on the train as well as shots of the countryside and coastline which they pass. Further on, the train also passes Saint on Dale and Cloughton. The family waits on a train platform, and one of the station agents opens a gate before the train arrives. They make their way back to Whitby, and the train can be seen pulling into the station. A fishing boat is pulling into Whitby Harbour, and it is surrounded by seagulls. Fishermen, dressed in yellow raincoats, unload the catch onto the quayside. There is excellent footage of the fishermen and work practices aboard the boats. There are also shots of the haul and fishermen mending nets. The last part of the film features the filmmaker's son playing on the beach. He makes is way over the pebbles to get some water to fill his pail before heading back up to the sand to dig some more. The film closes with a shot of a small sailboat, docked in the harbour, then making its way out to sea.
