This is a film of the visit of the Queen and Prince Phillip to York, and other events, as part of the 1900th Anniversary Celebrations. The film also includes the Benson & Hedges Golf Festival, the 26th World Archery Championships, and the Duchess of Kent switching on the fountain at the Exhibition Square, York.  Title – York's Royal Day and 1900th Anniversary Celebrations.   28th June 1971. The film begins with crowds lining a street in York, waving flags. Many shops are shown covered in bunting and decorations including:  Crockatts, Backhouse Nurseries and the Gas Board.  The Queen and Prince Phillip drive by in a glass-topped Rolls Royce, past large crowds.  The film then moves to the Knavesmire race course where the Queen meets the Mayor and is introduced to various dignitaries. She inspects troops and a band plays.  Accompanied by cavalry, she rides down the race course in a carriage and continues through the crowded streets.  She then walks amongst the crowds, stopping to talk to people. The film switches to the Museum Gardens where there is a sculpture exhibition, including large and small works in wood and stone. An advertising poster for the York Pageant is shown before showing some scenes being enacted from different historical periods: Victorian, Viking and Georgian. The film switches again to show the score board for the 26th World Archery Championships. There is a parade of archers from around the world before we see some action form both the men’s and women’s competitions. The on to show people working on an archaeological dig of a Roman wall and fortress, before moving on to the Benson & Hedges Golf Festival at the Fulford Golf Club.  Among the famous golfers on show are - Christie O'Connor, Peter Oosterhuis and Tony Jacklin. Back to Knavesmire where there is an armed forces display with children climbing on the tanks and guns etc.. The Mayor goes for a helicopter ride. There is also a grand searchlight tattoo with marching bands, a motorcycle riding demonstration and police dog handling, all in front of a mock castle. A newspaper item is shown stating that the Exhibition Square will become a pedestrian area with a fountain.  The Duchess of Kent switches on the fountain in front of a crowd of spectators. There is a very brief film of rally cars preparing for the Moss Rally. Another newspaper article tells of the re-enacted funeral of Severus, the Roman emperor, and the body is being followed by a parade of Roman characters. In quick succession many posters promote events in the 1900th Anniversary Celebrations of York.  This is followed by a torchlight procession with the Mayor, and people in fancy dress, before the film ends with a fireworks display.
