This is the fifth of a series of films made by Derrick Walton of his daughter, Gillian, from birth through childhood.  This film covers from Gillian’s 9th birthday and includes Skipton Gala, a visit to Sewerby Park Zoo, and rowing on a river.  The filmmaker has added music to accompany the film.  The film begins showing the cards for Gillian’s 9th birthday.  Gillian and her friends are sitting around a table at her birthday party where they are eating, drinking, and laughing.  There is a TV behind them in the corner.  Gillian lights the candles on her cake, and they all sing happy birthday. The film switches to a parade led by a steam traction engine, followed by floats, the Mayor, the Gala Queen, and vintage cars, as well as a racing car being towed on a trailer.  It is being filmed from the bedroom of someone’s house.  Then come the majorettes on the ‘Felling Royals’, followed by a float for ‘Needle Sylko’, and several brass bands, including the Spartan band.  Adrian and Gillian can be seen at the window watching as the bands march past.  There is a fair at the end of the parade where lots of people are mingling around the marquees and stalls.  They go on a big wheel, filmed as they go around.  They wander around the rides at the fair.  Gillian poses for the camera with a pipe in her mouth.  Back at home she lights the pipe and smokes it (obviously a trick one). Then Gillian and Adrian are out on a cruise a boat on a lake.  They look on as another girl has a parrot perched on her arm.  There is a sign for Sewerby Park Zoo.  They go around the zoo feeding some of the animals. The family then go for a walk in a wood and arrive at a waterfall.  They carry on their walk past a stream and up some steep steps overlooking the landscape.  Adrian shows off his new watch.  A glider is being towed by a light engine and Derrick Walton goes down a river in dinghy with Gillian.  They are having a picnic next to a river.  Mrs Walton joins Derrick on the dingy and they paddle along the river.  Derrick has a swim, and Adrian paddles on his own.  Gillian and another girl sit on a rock watching before going into the dingy themselves.
