This is the first of a series of films made by Derrick Walton of his daughter, Gillian, from birth through childhood.  This film reaches just past Gillian’s first birthday. This is the first of a series of films made by Derrick Walton of his daughter, Gillian, from birth through childhood.  This film reaches just past Gillian’s first birthday. Title – Gillian Rosemary Walton 30th May 1960 The film begins showing the new-born baby, Gillian, and then the board for Skipton General Hospital.  A nurse carries the baby out, accompanied by the parents, and they meet grandma and Adrian before getting into the family car.  Back home Derrick holds Gillian.  Mother feeds her with a bottle, gives her a bath and puts on a clean nappy.  Nappies are drying on the line in the garden.  There is a christening cake, and the family pose for a photo at the christening.  Gillian lies in her pram, with her brother Adrian playing with her.  She is then sitting up in a high chair eating a rusk. Then Adrian is out in a field wearing a cowboy belt and gun chasing a sheep and playing football with a man.  Two babies are sitting on blankets on the grass fighting over an inflatable pillow.  Next they are at home sitting in front of a coal fire.  Gillian’s first birthday cards are set up, and she is sitting at her high chair whilst Adrian lights her birthday cake, and blows it out.  Next Gillian is outside in her pram before having a bath in the kitchen sink, followed by playing with balloons in the garden.  Then the family are out having a picnic, with Gillian eating an ice cream, which she gets all over her face.  Back home she is getting dressed by her mother, and then crawling on the lawn in the garden.  She takes a few first steps, with her watching brother getting very excited.  The film switches to the family on a boat on a reservoir, with Adrian at the wheel, and then at an airstrip watching light aircraft.  Back home, the children unwrap their Easter eggs which contain chocolate buttons that the children eat and enjoy.  The family go for a walk somewhere in the Dales, where there are lots of parked cars, and Adrian runs about in his Rupert Bear trousers kicking a ball.  Back in the garden Gillian pushes a toy pram, while Adrian rides a tricycle, and the film comes to an end.
