This is a film of the 1981 British Junior Chamber of Commerce National Conference hosted by Leeds Junior Chamber of Commerce. Title: 'Ashdene Films Presents: Leadership in the 80's - BJC Conference Leeds' The film begins in September 1981 in Leeds Town Hall for the opening ceremony of the British Junior Chamber of Commerce National Conference. The conference is hosted by Leeds Junior Chamber of Commerce. Dignitaries make their way onto the platform. They include the Lord Mayor, Patrick Crotty, who officially opens the conference with a long, witty speech. The film then goes on to a lecture being given by Professor John Adair on Leadership, with the commentary listing the virtues that are required for this in persuading people in a free society. There is a large, formal dinner at the award ceremony where 25 trophies are presented. The film then moves on to another venue where the Japanese President of the International Chamber gives a speech. Later there is the final of the National Debating Competition in the Great Hall of Leeds University, which debates the motion that 'winning is more important than taking part.' A cheque is presented to Jimmy Saville for Stoke Mandeville Hospital. In front of a large audience, Jimmy Savile has a laugh and a joke with the person who raised the money before making a serious speech about the work of the hospital. The film then moves to a reception being held in a large marquee, hosted by the National President George Wright, where there are awards and speeches. A caption at the end has a cartoon of George Wright with a caption stating that he is the 'Ian Botham of speech makers.' The End
