The film begins with a lone float for the Young Women's Christian Association before we see the Lord Mayor the 'Football Queen' standing on a platform in from of a gas tower. Then other floats come into view, beginning with the National Farmer's Union one which has a fisherman and people dressed in hunting gear, followed by a football float, and one for the Royal Observer Corps. Judges walk around the floats taking notes. A Tetley bray is unloaded from a truck and then there is a float for Queen Elizabeth 1st followed by some of the trophies to be won. More floats include: York City Gym Club, Elliot's Hotel and Restaurant (dressed in 1920s clothes), World Conservation, Scouts, cock fighting, judo, girls dressed in traditional Japanese costume, and the British Sub Aqua Club (York Branch).
The parade eventually gets going led by the York Young Women's Christian Association. Later comes Wellbeck School and other vehicles, including a sail bike and other cyclists of the Cyclist Touring Club. The Rugby League Challenge Cup Trophy is paraded on a Haworth float. A Rolls Royce drives past the Minster. There are marching girl marionettes, and beefeater guards and their band. Later comes a float for York Cine Club made to look like a cine camera. Then comes floats for the Co-op, the Boys Brigade, Heworth Junior School, the City of York Pipe Band, the Salvation Army Band, the Royal Mail, and the Fire Brigade. The procession passes Clifton Tower with the St John's Ambulance float and a steam engine covered in flowers. Crossing over a river, the procession makes its way along a tree lined street with people lining the pavements on either side, some waving Union Jacks. The procession comes to an end in an open field. The Mayor makes a speech, presents the cups, and poses for the camera.
