On a hot sunny the day the first float, of boy scouts, emerges through some gates and before the table of judges, followed by lots of clowns with balloons. Many floats follow to line up for the off: a Hotel and Catering float, with students made up as items of food, floats with keep fit and animal themes, West Thorpe Scout Group, Lifesaver Heart Appeal, 'Anne', a Wallace Expansion Engine (steam traction), York Farmers, St Leonard's Hospice, and an Acting School. There is a Yorkshire Evening Post bus, and floats for Elim Pentecostal Church and St John Ambulance.
A small girl strokes some lambs in a pen, before the film returns to the start of the parade. There are floats for Elvington School, Jorvik Viking Centre, and a horse and cart for Ringtons tea. The Lord Mayor chats with participants and has lunch before getting into his horse and carriage, and the parade sets off led by a marching band. More floats are shown, including one with a Turkish dancing film, and Bellfarm Residents Association, with a rock and roll band. There are many in fancy dress, and a highland pipe band. More floats include: the Baha'i faith, Rowntree Table jelly, Central Methodist Church, 'sports through the ages', Clementhorpe Community Association', Fife's Dancing, a trad jazz band, BTCV ( British Trust for Conservation Volunteers). The march goes along Duncombe Place and on to Coney Street, with a float for district nurses. As they come along the final tree lined road there is a musical float and one for St Chad's Greys Scout's Band. At the finish the trophies are presented by the Lord Mayor, and there are activities, including a rope swing, as the film comes to an end.
