Present - Leeds on Show
The narrator states that it is June, and time to remind people of the Lord Mayor's Parade. A week before the Parade the young women promoters, with Leeds Metro sashes, go out onto the streets to hand out flyers for the Parade, with the theme of 'Leeds on Show'. People stand behind the gate of The Rookery, the home of Leeds Mencap. Here the Mencap float is being built and decorated, with the participants having a dress rehearsal. The finished float is then on Woodhouse Moor, together with other floats parking up to take their place. Some of the participants are interviewed; Jean Warminger and her daughter Jackie and Helen Baker, all dressed as cats for a restaurant float called 'Get stuffed'. This is followed by an interview with three majorettes, from the Moorend Jazz Band, Doncaster, who also give their names.
The Lord Mayor, Harry Booth, and his fellow judges, go around the floats with their clipboard judging the floats. Among these is one for Lewis's: a large pink elephant, decorated with 15,000 ribbon bows, which wins an award. The best overall float goes to Leeds Area Health Authority. The narrator reads out the winners of the other awards. Despite some showers, the parade starts off down Woodhouse Moor Lane, onto Merrion Street and Vicar Lane. A marching band leads the way, followed by Mencap, a highland band, a Burton brewery lorry and a Radio Leeds open-top bus. Among the other floats are ones for Raja Yoga, creating inner peace, The Manpower Services and the Girl Guides. Spectators watch from the sides in the rain.
At the Civic Hall Councillor Harry Booth takes the salute, along with the Lady Mayoress. One float has a giant model of 'Leeds' Biggest Operation'; another for Yorkshire Water has a symbolic fight with water pollution. The narrator reads out those charities that will benefit from that year's event. A black boy with a red balloon looks into the camera. Following this are floats for the British Heart foundation and the Co-op.
At the Presentation of Awards Ceremony the Lord Mayor and others present the trophies to the winners, followed by cheques being given to the chosen charities. The film closes with the narrator announcing himself as Chris Hawksworth.
