The weather improves as they move onto the city of Orvieto before travelling onto Florence and ending their journey in Venice with trips to the islands of Murano and Burano. Nearby two nuns stand under their umbrellas, a Swiss Guard stands at his post. From an upper floor window, the Gardens of the Vatican City below with a number of large trees and a path running through it. From another window the dome of St Peter’s Basilica in the near distance while below in a small courtyard large coils of cabling, part of renovations going on around the Vatican. Outside the Colosseum in Rome a small food van with colourful advertising awnings, the one across the top reading ‘Gastronomia’. A group of international visitors are taken of the tour of the inside of the oval amphitheatre, many have umbrellas to keep the rain off. Washing hang down from the balcony of a building in the city of Orvieto, shops sell decorative ceramic plates and handmade pottery. People walk along narrow streets; colour plant pots hang down from one building. In the distance across the city skyline the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. The River Arno flowing under the Ponte Vecchio bridge, on the bridge tourists walk past the many souvenir shops. In a square a local artist drawing a picture of a woman posing for her portrait. Visitors admire the Fountain of Neptune in Piazza della Signoria as colourful horse-drawn carriages drive past, nearby a number of ornate statues are being admired. A man, part of a tour group looks up at Santa Croce church, along an alleyway the dome of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. From the outskirts of the city of Venice the St Mark’s Campanile in the distance. From a boat travelling through the city itself buildings as well as other vessels on the water. A montage of images showing gondolas changes to show the real ones moored along a riverside. From the water another sightseeing boat in front passes under the Rialto Bridge, from the bridge tourists look down on the camera as it passes underneath. The boat travels along streets in the city where the ordinary citizens live, a police launch passes in the opposite direction. On the island of Murano visitors look over a display of decorative glassware. Outside a man pushes a wheelbarrow loaded with crates, nearby stall sells books and pamphlets. Gondolas and other boats are moored along the pathway surrounded by houses. Visitors look over a shop of store selling decorative lace on the island of Burano. People walk along a quayside, in the near distance the leaning campanile of San Martino’s church. In a town square, locals walk across; a woman stands in the doorway of her house. Guests throw rice on a newly married couple as they come out of a church. After brushing themselves off the happy couple walk arm-in-arm along a road watched by locals. A woman carries are large bouquet follows behind. From the boat leaving the island the leaning belltower again of San Martino’s. Back in Venice in the Piazza San Marco, a boy feeds pigeons, a woman sits reading a magazine beside her stall. The western façade of St Mark’s Basilica with various souvenir and food stalls nearby. Two young women walk past, one is eating an ice cream. Nearby a man takes a photograph of the Basilica. Tourists continues to walk around the Piazza San Marco including a group of young men all wearing matching red and white tracksuits. The film ends on a longboat on the water and the men onboard paddling hard possibly as part of a race. End title: The end
