This home movie produced by Christine Hanley features members of her family on or around Layton House Farm near Sedgefield in County Durham. Husband Frederick features walking through the snowy landscape with the family dog and is seen later in the film sledding with his wife and children on the road leading to the family home. The film also features a holiday to Scotland and the extended family together in the garden during summer. The film opens on blue-tits feeding on hanging nuts in a garden followed by a man and dog walking through a snowy landscape. The man is holding a shotgun, the dog carries a dead bird in its mouth. A woman rides past on horseback. Two young girls walk past followed by views of men working on Layton House Farm . The film changes to show girls taking part in a school sports day, racing around a field watched by a large crowd. The film cuts to show a cat and her kittens eating from a bowl placed on the ground. They then proceed to lick and groom themselves. In the garden of a large house a family group gathers, the women sit on a swing seat, the men standing nearby chatting. A man takes a photograph of two girls while two women stand in the doorway of the house. One of the men picks up and carries away the younger of the two women. The film changes to show a number of people standing beside a fast-flowing rocky river surrounded by trees with mountains in the distance. The film goes on to show water flowing along concrete channels, possibly the salmon ladder at the Pitlochry Dam and hydro electric power station on the River Tummel in Scotland. A woman looks at the camera while standing in a field surrounded by cattle. The sequence ends on a view of the old pack horse bridge crossing the River Dulnain at Carrbridge. A young man stands in a river looking down into the water for oysters. Two men carrying a deer on a pole walk around outside a farm house. The younger man is carrying a shotgun, a dog runs around under their feet. The film changes to show a tractor with a plough attached at the rear clearing a road of snow. General views show a wintery landscape. The tractor reverses once again along the farm track, then the film cuts to a man holding a flaming torch. A woman and two small children speed along the farm track on a sled. The final part of the film shows the woman and a man sledding along the track with their children and walking back up towards the house.
