A short industrial film made for UMM Greenside showing an underground personnel transport locomotive or Manrider being tested on a rail track built on a steep incline possibly at Blairhill Colliery Fife in Scotland. A groups of men stand around taking notes or having duscussions, other engineers make various adjustments to the train. The vehicle is filmed going up and down the incline.
The film opens showing the white metal framed vehicle on a hillside. The structure consists of three different sections.
The vehicle slowly travels down the hillside, which appears to be a colliery spoil heap Several bystanders watch the progress of the mine car.
The film cuts to a view of the incline railway on which the vehicle runs, showing a series of tracks. A steel cable runs between two of the tracks alongside the track where the mine car runs.
The vehicle comes down the incline and stops just in front of the camera, it appears to have no driver.
The mine car comes down the incline again, a close view follows of the wheels running along the track.
A workman wearing a white safety helmet looks in the front cabin of the car and makes an adjustment to part of the mechanism. A close view of a metal plate near one of the wheels moves further underneath the frame of the car. A view of a pressure gauge is shown as the workman moves a steel lever back and forth.
A group of men talk amongst themselves as the stand next to the stationary mine car. One of the men gets into the third section of the vehicle which is designed to carry personnel. Several others get in to take a ride up the incline. Views follow of another group of men gathered at the trackside having a discussion.
The film moves back to the vehicle travelling back down the incline, the men get out of the passenger section.
Another group of men gather next to the vehicle for discussion, one of them takes notes.
Another view follows again of the mine car again coming down the incline. A broader view shows the car heading towards the men gathered at the bottom. A view follows of a hand applying a brake as the car comes to a halt.
A static view shows some of the control mechanisms in the front section of the car.
Mores discussion follows amongst the men that gather near the front of the car. One of the men wears a jacket that displays the letters NCB (National Coal Board) on the back.
The car comes down the incline again and a close-up view shows one the plates next to a wheel, similar to the one seen earlier.
A high angle view from a distance shows the car coming down the incline railway, then stopping half way, this view ends the film.
