Single camera position. The Wind in the Willows us the famous children's book by Kenneth Grahame. Mr. Toad of Toad Hall falls in love with motor cars and motoring, so he buys a car which he then crashes. He buys another, which he crashes and buys another followed by another! Mr Toad in his goggles and duster is a reckless driver. Soon he is ruled off the road, but he then steals a car. He is convicted of theft and sent to jail for 20 years. While there, he learns that Weasels have taken over his old family home and all his friends have been evicted. However, the jailor's daughter adores Mr Toad for his charm and character and helps him escape. Finally, Mr Toad and his friends Ratty, Badger and Mole retake Toad Hall from the Weasels. Title: The Royal Grammar School Junior School Presents “The Wind In The Willows” [All titles appear with an animated picture of a waterfall] Title: On the Riverbank The actors in costume perform in an area where the audience sit either side of the performance, the first actor is Mr Toad who introduces the story to the audience. Title: The Wild Wood The title stays on screen for a while to allow for scene changes. A group of rabbits appear in the next scene [quite dark] Title: Inside Badger’s Home Badger, Mole and Ratty appear on stage and hold a conversation. Title: At Toad Hall Toad appears on stage, behind him, his portrait hangs on a wall. Toad appears to be driving his car. Toad is joined on stage by Mole, Ratty and Badger. Title: In the Red Lion Inn A pub sign showing a Red Lion is attached to a wall. A woman serves a meal on a table as Mr Toad walks on stage. The maid serves the meal to him. Three others enter the inn, they appear to have arrived by car. They sit down at a table then run out in a hurry. Title: In a Court of Law Court members and the judge enter. The judge sits down on a raised chair. A policeman brings Toad into court. Two policemen stand either side of Toad as the judge speaks to him about his theft of a motor car. The court procedure continues. Title: In the Middle of the Wild Wood Mr Toad’s friends Ratty, Badger and Mole walk in the wood. A group of Weasel gangsters meet them, one of them reads from a newspaper the court sentence meted out to Toad. Title: In a Damp, Dark Dungeon. A meal is brought to a despondent Toad in prison. Title: In Toad Hall Mole and Badger sit on chairs talking. The gangsters [Weasels] seen earlier arrive with guns and with members of an armed military style group. They force Mole and Badger out. Tile: A Road. Toad is good spirits after escaping from jail, however the police appear on the scene and give chase. Title: In Rat’s Hole Ratty finds his friend Toad asleep, wakes him gives him clean clothes to wear. Mole arrives to greet Toad, then Badger. Title: Outside the back door of Toad Hall. Two men in combat uniform march with guns. A sergeant appears and asks if either of them has anything to report. Mole arrives in woman’s clothing and speaks with the men Title: In Toad’s dining hall Drunken Weasel gangsters sit around a table singing Happy Birthday to You. Toad arrives with his friends; they have weapons with them and chase the Weasel gangsters from the hall. As the friends tidy up, Toad puts his portrait painting back on the wall. Toad sings a song. All the company comes on stage to join in with Toad’s song and give Toad three cheers. The actors turn to face the audience as they applaud. Then they leave the stage area, leaving Toad on his own bowing and waving to the audience. Badger comes back in and unceremoniously drags him out. All the actors come back into the theatre, the audience applaud, and a member of staff presumably the one responsible for putting on the production is given a bouquet of flowers by the actor playing Toad.
