Title: Shattered Illusions
A young woman wearing red Scholl's Pescura sandals sits on a high backed sofa reading a newspaper. She puts the paper down and picks up a promotional leaflet for a hotel. In voiceover she explains that she was looking forward to a weekend at a large hotel.
We then follow all the activities she attempts at the hotel. A woman horse rider jumps a single bar fence. The young woman herself plays croquet, then puts on her whites for tennis, followed by a try at pitch and putt. As she takes part in the various sports and is tutored (rather closely) at the pool table, she says: 'My boyfriend thinks I'm game for anything so I'd soon get into the swing of things.'
Next, she's wearing a maxi dress and a white shawl as she joins a formal dance in the hotel ballroom. She watches others dance. Most of the men suddenly abandon their dance partners and make a bee line for the young woman who becomes the centre of attention.
Our young adventuress is now on the sofa reading a leaflet for the Crieff Hydro, a purpose-built hotel.
Then we see her outside the Strathearn Stables, Registered Riding School, as the wall sign reads. The woman tries to mount a horse, finally using a set of steps only to end up sitting on the horse back to front. Another rider tries to help her get on, but only succeeds in launching her over the horse where she lands on grass on the other side.
The film shows a croquet mallet about to strike the ball through a hoop. The woman plays the game attempting to aim the ball through other hoops on the croquet lawn. When she strikes the ball the head of the mallet comes off, the ball misses the hoop and ends up in bushes at the edge of the lawn. The woman tries to find the ball, but instead disturbs a courting couple in the bushes.
She has another go at tennis, but succeeds in missing the ball more than hitting it. As she prepares to serve, she suffers an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction, leaving her shorts around her ankles.
At the pitch and putt, she succeeds in putting a ball in the hole and when she goes to retrieve it, removes a toad instead and runs off in fright. "Putting my best foot forward, I was reminded that toad in the hole was on the lunch menu."
Next a game of billiards, where an instructor helps her to become more familiar with the finer points of the game. However, while enjoying all the attention, she manages to rip the green baize with her billiard cue.
Back at the evening dance in the hotel ballroom, she this time gets ignored. Sitting on a couch waiting for an invite to dance, a man approaches and she starts to get up to greet him. However, he bypasses her for another woman. "Maybe I shouldn't have had garlic with the salad." she muses. An elderly grey-haired gent approaches her for a dance and tells her he's called John Smith, to her disbelief. But she accepts the offer of a dance. Unfortunately, she has another wardrobe malfunction and her dress falls off. She smacks the man on the face.
