Cars travel along a road across a bridge followed by traffic heading up and down an off-ramp. Traffic continues to move along existing roads beside which the construction site for a new roadway, a smooth wheel compactor working in the distance alongside other pieces of heavy machinery. In the distance a concrete bridge.

A national speed limit sign beside a road, nearby the construction site of a new road. In the distance chimneys from a large factory. Pieces of heavy machinery travel up and down the rough ground, a workman stands working a machine. On the other side of the road the construction site continues into the near distance.
A bulldozer works a section of the new road changes to show the outlines of a dual carriageway in the earth with a bridge in the distance. A crane works beside a pond or ditch which curves around towards the new highway. A concrete tunnel under the new road is blocked.
Two wheeled tractor scrapers travel at speed along the muddy track of the new road. White wooden posts mark the edge of one of the carriageways as more construction vehicles travel up and down the new highway. In the distance asphalt pavers works to tarmac the road.

A road passes beside a construction site changes to a new concrete bridge crossing over a dual carriageway. From a number of locations, the foundations of a road with construction equipment and machinery nearby.

Pieces of heavy machinery are parked along the edge of the River Wansbeck, across on the side a steep riverbank of rock. A construction site has been created near the river, equipment set up beside the water including cranes and two vehicle cement mixers.
Men work on a structure made up of steel lattice girders, they work to prepare it for cement which us then poured into the mould. A number of concrete pillars are constructed crossing the Wansbeck, cranes and other heavy equipment on the backs of each side of the river. Men continues to work on the structure seen previously, scaffolding also surrounds it. A generator is lifted onto the concrete frame using a crane. Other items are moved by the crane.
Two men work to install heavy duty steel cabling inside the structure. A machine creates and measures the correct tension needed for the cabling. General views showing construction work continuing on the bridge.
Dust is thrown up into the air by a wheeled tractor scraper which is flatting the earth of the new road. The unsurfaced road changes to show it complete with tarmac added. The film ends on the coat-of-arms of Northumberland County Council.
