The first of five short amateur film produced by Donald Oates, a Civil Engineer for Newcastle, and Northumberland County Council, showing construction of the A1058 Coast Road between Jesmond in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Tynemouth. This reel features both construction work taking place around the railway bridge near the Wills cigarette factory on the outskirts of Newcastle as well as traffic moving along existing roads. A car is parked on a roadway beside a lattice metal bridge crossing overhead. A caravan is parked beside a section on highway that is under construction. Beside a barrier a road passes on one side, on the other another section of roadway without a tarmac. Traffic moves in both directions along a busy road, in the near distance a number of apartment buildings. A closer view of the road with a bus now travelling along it and the road construction site nearby. Another part of the construction site near a concrete bridge crossing the new highway, a solid base has been installed to one of the road lanes. Two men walk across the bridge on which sit a number of pieces of road construction equipment. A van drives along a road alongside the new highway, houses line the other side of the road. The film ends on an off ramp under constriction coming off the highway.
