Summary A home movie produced by Donald Oates of a family holiday to the coastal town of Salou in the province of Tarragona in north-eastern Spain where the family owned a holiday home. Two boys stand beside a lifebuoy onboard a ship waiting to depart Dover. The ship begins to pull away from the quayside passing a second ship moored nearby and out into the British Channel passing the White Cliffs of Dover.
The camera shakes on-board a moving train speeding through the French countryside passing through a railway station. On a wall a mural of Flamenco dancers, a road sign for Cabo Salou changing to show the Mediterranean Sea with waves crashing against rocky cliffs.
A man, woman and small boy walk along a road changes to the boy in the sea near the beach laying on an inflatable lilo. The beach is busy with sunbathers, a number of pedalo or paddle boat sits on the sand beside the water. Another boy wearing an inflatable ring around his waist also splashes around in the water. People enjoy the sun and swimming or paddling in the surf. On the beach a woman in a bathing suit puts on sunscreen.
Inside a house a family enjoy cups of tea, items are laid out on the dining room table. In the near distance a woman and two boys walk past a parked car and along a covered path towards a beach that is busy with other sun-seekers relaxing on the sand under colourful beach umbrellas. In the sea people swim or paddle, others lay on inflatable lilos.
From the cliffs a long sandy beach in the distance. Three children sit on beach chairs eating changes to show an apartment built on the cliffs in the distance.
In the surf two boys and a small girl dig a hole in the sand, they build sandcastles. A man takes one of the boys into the sea, they boys play in the surf with their inflatable lilos with a number of other children. Back on the beach they play in the sand.
Boats moored in a harbour with people walking along a road beside it. Crowds of people relax in the sun on another beach, many sitting under beach umbrellas. From cliffs a development of buildings along a distance peninsula.
A statue in a town changes back to the beach and people trying to stay aboard a wave rider speeding through the surf. A view looking across the sea changes to people walking through a harbour. Local fishermen unload their catch onto a quayside, a crowd gather round. Men walk past through crowds of onlookers and locals carrying a series of wicker baskets full of seafood and fish.
At the family’s apartment two boys sit on deckchairs, inside the adults have cups of tea. A family group relax on a set of tiled steps changes to a view of the Les Ferreres Aqueduct Tarragona.
Waves crash along a rocky coastline changes to traffic moving along a road in a town surrounded by high cliffs. In the hill’s cars are parked along a road, at the peak a red and white antenna. From the summit winding roads head along the hillside.
At a railway station a car drives carefully onto a carriage. At a seaport, a small crowd watch as the cars are driven carefully off the carriage onto the quayside. Onboard a ship passengers find their seats; two boys look out of a window. The ship pulls into the dock at Dover beside another ship already moored there.
Cars travel along a motorway and the family enjoy a meal at a service station. A near empty motorway changes to show the two boys running along a covered pathway. The film ends on a beach, possibly Whitley Bay.
