Title: At the Seaside
A family group sit or lay on the sand on Scarborough beach not far from the seawall. They enjoy a picnic with sandwiches being handed around from a tin. A man stands chatting while drinking a cup of tea.
A man and small girl paddle in a nearby sea pool, the girl carrying a yellow bucket of water walks back towards the group. She collects a second bucket of water and walks along the beach where she is joined by an older boy. A man and woman look down on a small pool of seawater against the sea wall as the girl comes back carrying another bucket which she pours into a hole is the sand. Four adults pass a beachball around.
Two men and three child sit under the sign at Peasholm railway station, part of the North Bay miniature gauge railway. A train pulls into the station and the family take a ride on it travelling along the coast arriving at Scalby Mills. They then take the take the train back to Peasholm.
A sign lit up with coloured bulbs read ‘Wonderland’ is followed by views of Scarborough at night illuminated by various coloured lights and animated displays.
Visitors walk around the lake inside Peasholm Park, a queue forms to ride onboard a replica Spanish Galleon moored on the water. A pirate’s flag is raised as the ship pulls away from the jetty. A man in a striped shirt is at the controls of the vessel speaking with the passengers sitting around him.
A group of older boys climbs a tree, a girl plays on the ground nearby while the adult’s watch. Another pirate flag flies outside a wooden cabin, on the water the galleon come back to dock along the jetty.
Back on the beach children play in the surf splashing around in the water. Their parents sit nearby watching and chatting happily.
From an elevated position views of the town of Scarborough below followed by large crowds on the beach and promenade. Traffic and pedestrians walk through town followed by children jump on trampolines. Moored at the fish quay a number of trawlers as well as a number of other sea vessels. Smaller pleasure boats are moored in the marina, in the background a fairground ride spins through the air. Some of these boats sail along the coastline, on the cliffs above Scarborough Castle.
Pedestrians and traffic travel along the road underneath the castle with sea birds nesting in the cliffs. A man looks up as a bird dropping appears to land in his eye. Now closer to castle views looking down on North Bay below.
The children play with their parents in the sand on the beach building a sandcastle with moat. Three of the children take a donkey ride and are led up and down the sand passing large crowds of holidaymakers. Two girls play in the surf and are joined by the youngest’s father wearing shorts. They run up and down. The film ends back in Peaholm Park and people riding the water chute.
