An amateur film produced by Doug Collender recording various locations around the city of Newcastle upon Tyne. As well as more established locations such as the Newcastle Civic Centre and Old Eldon Square, the film also featured derelict housing possibly in the Byker area of the city which was going through considerable change at that time. The film also records the people and the range of amusements at the Hopping’s Fair taking place on the city's Town Moor. The film opens on the roof of Newcastle Tower showing focusing on one of the turrets. The camera pans down onto the main railway line into Newcastle Central Station below and a British Rail diesel passenger train pulling into the station. The film cuts to show general views of Newcastle Civic Centre as well as sculptures River Tyne God and Swans in Flight both by David Wynne. On the corner of John Dobson Street traffic turns right into Northumberland Avenue passing Newcastle City Hall with Berwick Court high-rise in the near distance. The film returns to the Civic Centre and views of the seahorse heads and spire on the roof as well as sign near to the front entrance. The film changes to show a 1930s art-deco apartment block with trees in blossom in the foreground. Close up views follow of the tree blossom. The film cuts to the Newcastle Town Moor and views around the Hopping’s Fair showing rides such as a Roll-O-Plane, a Twister and views from a moving Ferris wheel looking across the city skyline and fairground below. Back on the ground a number of people sit around a Bingo stall, followed by various general views of the Hopping’s Fair showing adults and children enjoying the many rides and attractions. Inter-cut with these views a man in a kiosk produces hot dogs while another speaks with two police women. Two colourful balloons in the shape of animals gently sway in the breeze are tied to a stall, followed by children riding child-sized rides. A man throwing balls at a coconut shy is followed by someone throwing a plastic hoop over a prize that forms part of a stall. More views show rides in action and visitors walking past. The film changes to show stones being thrown through windows of an upstairs terraced house. A closer view of a set of chimneys on the roof of the property pulls back to show a modern high-rise block of flats in the near distance. General views show broken windows and the interior of a partially demolished house with a derelict outside toilet. Pigeons peck for food in an overgrown cobbled back-alley. On the corner of Wansbeck Street a derelict corner shop, the name above the door reading ‘D. Rat. Tray’. The film returns to show the turret atop Newcastle Tower and the diesel passenger train once again pulling into Newcastle Central Station this time with a wide angle view of the station itself. A view of the tower and spires atop of the Church of St Thomas the Martyr on Haymarket Lane is followed by traffic crossing the Swing Bridge from Gateshead into Newcastle. The camera pans right to show a small diesel commuter train crossing the High Level Bridge from Newcastle towards Gateshead. Traffic crosses the Tyne Bridge, then the film cuts to show more traffic coming around Swan House roundabout making its way towards the Tyne Bridge. At Old Eldon Square the local old and young sit around on benches or the grass enjoying a sunny day,  surrounded by a number of high-rise office blocks. A man lying on the ground sleeps near to the war memorial of St George on horseback.  A decorative flower bed at Old Eldon Square changes to show a double decker bus driving past heading north along the Great North Road. A neon sign reads ‘Sunrise Chinese Restaurant’. Outside the Post Office on Blackett Street an old woman stands at the traffic lights as other pedestrians walk past and traffic drives by. A sign attached to a lamp post reads ‘Car Parks’ with an arrow pointing the direction. The film cuts to a double decker bus as it turns out of Grainger Street into Blackett Street with Fenwick’s department store in the near distance.
