An amateur film produced by Chris Anderson that records a number of sporting events taking place around the Woodhouse Close area of Bishop Auckland, possibly as part of the area carnival week in 1976. At a number of locations local teams of girls take part in games of rounders while the boys play five-a-side football.
The film opens on a green area surrounded by houses where a number of girls are getting ready for a game of rounders. The game gets underway with girls wearing orange tops...
An amateur film produced by Chris Anderson that records a number of sporting events taking place around the Woodhouse Close area of Bishop Auckland, possibly as part of the area carnival week in 1976. At a number of locations local teams of girls take part in games of rounders while the boys play five-a-side football.
The film opens on a green area surrounded by houses where a number of girls are getting ready for a game of rounders. The game gets underway with girls wearing orange tops throwing and fielding and those in blue hitting the ball and running around the posts. A small crowd watch from the edges. The teams swap over and the game continues. A game appears to come to an end, but another team made up of girls not in either blue or orange tops begins to play by hitting balls and racing around the posts. The games stops again and the girls in orange tops rush off. Those in blue pick up the baton and those not in coloured tops proceed to throw the ball and field. The sequence ends with the girls in orange tops running towards camera.

The film changes to a green space on Crawford Avenue where two small crowds gather, one standing around an ice cream van, the other around a tent erected on the green.

A number of boys working together to build a playing area changes to show two teams of boys playing a game of five-a-side football. One team is wearing orange shirts, the others blue and black stripes. A small crowd of boys sit watching from the touchline. The film changes to show the boys in orange being replaced by a team in white tops and then the team in orange playing against the team in white. A number of shots at goal by all sides are filmed, some succeed in scoring.

At a playground a father helps his small child onto a roundabout as another man walks his dog across a field. Across a busy road is a Volvo dealership and a gas holder that can be seen in the near distance. Another game of 5-a-side football gets underway with teams of young boys in white and blue tops. A tent is erected nearby, a white Volkswagen Kombi van is parked next to it.

The football match between the team in white and the team in blue continues with a number of smaller boys sitting around the touchline. The final whistle is blown, a small boy in shorts chasing a butterfly around the field, he holds it up to the camera.
A second 5-a-side football match gets underway between a team in orange and a team in red shirts. A number of shots are made at goal watched by group of adults and children sitting along the touchline.

In the field seen previously where the five-a-side football was played a number of girls get ready to play a game of rounders beside a tent. The rounders game gets underway with teams in blue and white tops. Many of the girls in blue race around the posts at speed. The team change positions with those in white now hitting the ball and racing around from post to post. The game ends and the team pick up the mats which have been used as posts.
The film changes to show two teams of young men playing a game of five-a-side football, one team is wearing blue and black striped tops, the other white. Again, a small crowd sits around the edge of the pitch watching. The match comes to an end and the men make their way off the pitch. Two more teams in orange or white tops are filmed playing a game of five-a-side football also watched by a number of spectators sitting around the touchline.
