An amateur film made by Raymond James Paiton of the ‘Blagdon Sprint’ high-speed trials organised by Raymond and believed to be taking place on the Blagdon Estate at Seaton Burn on the outskirts of Newcastle. The film begins with views of spectators looking over the various cars taking part in the sprint event. From the starting line views of cars getting underway and speeding around the circuit. The film ends with spectator looking over the cars after the race.
The film opens in a field and general views of crowds and car parked there including a number of racing cars. A man in one of the racing cars with the number 5 written along the side looks at the camera. Another sports car, this time with the number 3 written along the side drives past.
A Morris Minor with the number 6 painted across the drives door drives under a banner mounted on scaffolding that reads ‘START’.
Around a racing track a number of vehicles speed past cutting to a group of people walking towards a line of cars parked in a field. A man gets into an Austin A90 Atlantic while a second man stands nearby making notes on a small pad of paper.
A sports car, an MG with the number 20 painted along the driver’s door drives past the starting line cutting to show the Morris Minor seen previously driving past, passing a number of hay-bales marking out the edge of the circuit.
Two more vehicles, one of which is a Renault 4CV drive past cutting to another vintage car, the number 28 painted on the driver’s door, pulling away from the start line passing a number of spectators.
General views show cars driving past in one direction, the film cuts to vehicles driving at speed along the same track in the opposite direction; right to left. The direction of travel changes again with more cars passing from left to right and some spectators watching from a safe distance.
Two more vehicles pulls away from underneath the starting banner, the film cuts to two men standing beside a car, a caravan in the background behind which is the starting banner.
The film ends of spectators looking over some of the vehicles featured in the sprint parked on the field
