Title: Daily ‘7’
Title: 1. Is the Outside of My Pub Tidy?
The film opens on the sign for The Duke of Albany public house in Albany Village, Washington. A man carrying a clipboard comes out of the pub and begins to walk around the exterior of the building. He stops at various points and writes details onto the clipboard.
He come around the side of the building into the car park walking past a number of cars and a British Gas van parked there. He stops beside a set of steps leading to a door into the rear of the pub and makes more notes. A sign above the door reads ‘Bar Lunches Evening Snacks’. He walks past a set of large metal gates leading to a field beyond and makes notes relating to bushes nearby.
The film changes to show the exterior of another public house; The Grindon Mill on The Broadway in Sunderland. General views of the exterior of the building include drains and fire exit. A broken sign sits in a hidden corner.
The film cuts to the window of a shop in which three A4 sized posters relating to The Grindon Mill have been placed. The signage on the shop reads ‘Wine Shop’. Back at The Grindon Mill views of graffiti written on an exterior wall at the back of the pub.
The film cuts to show the exterior of The Chesters public house on Chester Road in Sunderland. The building is painted green with letter for the pub’s name in red. Two cars are parked outside and the camera focuses on the grass verge in front. A general view shows the roof, followed by the car park nearby. A broken drain pipe can be seen on the side of the building.
Title: Is the Inside of My Pub Clean?
The man seen previous outside The Duke of Albany stands beside the door to a Gentleman’s toilet and writes something on his clipboard. He goes inside and makes notes of the toilet’s condition.
The film cuts to show the man checking the lettering of a sign above a set of double doors. The words read ‘The DR M and Pipes’. General view of the lounge area in the pub and a section of wallpaper coming off the wall in one corner. The man with the clipboard walks around the lounge area and makes notes on hanging wallpaper.
BLANK
Along a road comes a horse drawn Vaux Breweries dray or delivery wagon. The film cuts to show the exterior of The White Lion pub on the corner of Sunderland Street and Newbottle Street in Houghton-le-Spring with The Golden Lion pub just across the road.
The film changes to show inside the pub and a large number of glasses sitting along the bar and bottles of spirits hanging from optics behind. A young woman comes into the bar area and begins to clear away some of the glasses. The film cuts to the otherside of the bar showing the woman as she washing some of the glasses and cleaning the sink area.
A second woman appears and begins to help the first to clear and clean the glasses. Ash trays on the bar are emptied into a bin and the bar area cleaned down with a cloth [partly out of focus].
The first woman takes a break and drinks a cup of tea while standing behind the bar. The second woman re-appears and puts ash trays onto the bar area. She gives instructions to the first woman and begins to move bottles from the shelf behind the bar. She then takes down some of the optics as the first woman removes glasses and bottles from shelves above the bar.
Using a bucket the second woman cleans and rinses the optics. Standing on a stepladder the first woman begins to wipe down the shelves as a third woman appears vacuuming the carpet in front of the bar.
With the shelves clean, the glasses and bottles are returned to the shelf. Along the bar the second woman wipes down some of the bottles before returning them to the shelf behind her.
On her own again, the first woman wipes and cleans the beer taps. [Out of focus] General views show the shelves behind the bar as the woman continues to clean up.
At the end of the bar a jar of flowers has been placed as the second woman appears checking everything is ready for opening. Standing at the end of the bar the two women chat.
A brief view of the exterior of The White Lion quickly cuts back to a man in a leather jacket approaching the bar. The film ends with the first woman pouring and serving the man a pint of beer.
