A short amateur film showing the installation of new brewery tank, possibly for fermentation, at the Vaux Breweries site in Sunderland. The film begins on a newspaper clipping relating to the installation followed by preparations being made both outside and inside the space for the tanks. A large crane lifts the first tank into position and the film ends with workmen inside the building moving it into position.
The film begins on a newspaper clipping showing a picture of a large tank being lifted into a building by crane. The headline reads ‘New Tanks for old at Town Brewery’.
Parking in a street is a ‘British Road Services’ lorry with two large wagons attached to the back containing the two new tanks.
A large crane is parked in the road besides a long building on the Vaux Breweries site. A large square hole has been made in the side wall out of which a number of workmen can be seen. A sign on a nearby wall reads ‘Vaux’.
The film cuts to inside the building and two men carrying a large gas tank. General views showing various workmen inside the space preparing for the installation of the new tanks. One man is painting the thin metal girder lining the floor while others move long planks of wood. A man with an acetylene touch cuts a piece of jagged metal from the edge of the space where the tank will come in.
Back outside the lorry reverses into position as workmen attach thick metal chains to a long metal brace. The crane hook is lowered and the brace attached and fitted around one of the tanks. The tank is slowly lifted into the air.
As the tank reaches the level of the hole in the wall, workmen inside help to manoeuvre it through the gap in the wall using ropes and pulleys. The film ends with the tank now inside the space slowly being moved into position on wooden slides.
