This is Calendar News item reporting on possible large-scale redundancies at Imperial Typewriters in Hull and the efforts being made to find employees new jobs. The item was originally broadcast on 23rd January, 1975.
The film opens in the canteen of Imperial Typewriters where stations have been set up to inform employees of other job opportunities available. There are shots of people with consultants while others crowd around message boards. 200 jobs are on display, and there is a brief interview with Bill Pringle, District Manager for the Employment Service Agency. He explains people without a marketable skill will not be in a good position to find further employment in Hull. The factory owner explains that while he is trying to keep the factory open, he understands why people are looking elsewhere for employment.
