The film opens outside the County Hotel in Durham and a miner's banner being paraded by a large crowd along Old Elvet towards Durham Racecourse. In the front of the crowd a group of young women link arms and dance.
Along Elvet Bridge another procession of people march beside their banner heading towards the County Hotel. The film cuts to a group of men and women dancing together in the street.
Another banner is paraded past the County Hotel, behind it comes the colliery brass band. A fourth banner goes past heading along Old Elvet, a policeman on horseback follows alongside.
Another colliery brass band passes the County Hotel, this time in front of their banner. As they continue along Old Elvet the film shows the large crowds standing and watching from the pavement.
The film ends on a Scottish bagpipe band as it marches along Old Elvet, behind them a number of other miner's banners held aloft, make their way across Elvet Bridge.
