Richard Whiteley interviews Hardy Amies outside in Leeds.  He asks Amies about what he’s wearing and what makes a well-dressed man.  They discuss the width of jacket lapels and whether fashion is only for those under 30.  Whiteley, dressed in a tan suit, canary yellow tie, and bright striped shirt, asks if he is dressed fashionably.  Amies responds that he can tell the suit is at least two years old because of the size of the lapels.

Hardy Amies was a dressmaker for Queen Elizabeth II from her coronation in 1952 until his retirement in 1989. Amies was also hired to design costumes for several notable films such as Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).

Richard Whiteley was a popular British television presenter and journalist. He is best known for presenting Channel 4’s ‘Countdown’ for over twenty years.
