Peter Holland report on a house insulation job creation scheme on Tyneside for Tyne Tees TV news programme Northern Life broadcast on 16 September 1976.
Peter Holland introduces his report from the community gardens of the Mariners Cottages, South Shields. He talks about the households with money to burn due to poor house insulation. He explains that the Tyneside Environmental Concern has come up with the idea of using people on the government’s Job Creation Scheme to install insulation in homes.
Holland speaks to Andy Hudson, Tyneside Environmental Concern, who thought up the scheme. Hudson says they have been upgrading homes all over Durham and Northumberland, mainly terraced houses, but also single storey and stone cottages.

The report cuts back to Andy Hudson (mid-sentence). Holland notes that the other side to the scheme is that it provides jobs too. He asks how long it took to persuade the authorities about the scheme. Hudson says they were very quick to see it was in the national interest, the community and individual’s interest.
