Harry Ashleigh, a mechanic from West Hartlepool, walks across the local beach in full highland dress practising playing the bagpipes.
Mr Ashleigh meets up with reporter Phil McDonnell who asks the piper why he plays on the beach. Is it because the sea inspires him or does an audience frighten him? Mr Ashleigh replies that he likes the quiet and that some people don’t like pipe music. You can be on your own on the beach.
McDonnell asks why he wears the very expensive Highland kit. Mr Ashleigh declares that he likes Scotland and Scottish things. The kit goes with the bagpipes.
McDonnell asks what the average passer-by thinks. Mr Ashleigh answers that some people really enjoy it. Others walk off in disgust. Some want to know what the music is. He states that he doesn’t get any criticism but he sometimes gets ‘looks’ and looks can speak.
The West Hartlepool piper plays as he walks away along the beach at low tide.
