The film opens with cars travelling along a curve in the road, then cuts to a trackside view in a railway cutting as a steam train approaches from under a bridge towards the camera. The train is headed by a double header configuration [two locomotives pull the train], the leading engine faces forward, the second engine faces backwards. The number of the second engine is 45407 a Black class Stanier 4-6-0 built in 1937.
Next a view of a steam train on an embankment reversing and hauling a passenger train. A high angle view looks down on a railway and sidings as a steam train comes into view. The train switches track as it approaches the camera.
The film cuts to a group of people standing at the top of a hillside looking down, then changes to a rural view looking towards a hillside with some industrial buildings in front of it. The whole site resembles a quarry. The camera pans right showing the extent of the works.
A high angle view follows showing a curved section of track which runs through wooded countryside. The camera pans right showing a steep slope.
Some random shots follow, but settles down to a high angle view of a twin track railway and an approaching steam train. This train is also a double header with one locomotive facing backwards. It heads off into the distance.
A complet change subject showing a city scene in Newcastle and traffic turning right at a busy junction. The camera picks out a road sign for Tynemouth, as a bus speeds past. Traffic negotiates another busy junction. The film cuts back to the junction seen earlier.
General views follow of a railway in a rural setting. The film ends with a trackside view showing a steam engine in North Eastern Railway colours [Green] approaching the camera.
