This film by filmmaker and railway enthusiast Chris Lawson shows more of mid Sixties surviving steam engines at enthusiasts gatherings and in working situations, some based in the North East and some further afield.
The film opens with views of the Jubilee class 'Alberta' at a steam enthusiasts gathering. This is followed by engine number 62044 a K1 class, hauling a train of coal trucks [location maybe Hartlepool]. A high angle view from a bridge(?) shows the 'Alberta' again speeding its way along the track, followed by a trackside view of Alberta pulling a passenger train.
The film cuts to a speeding restored steam engine, pulling a train (possibly an enthusiasts excursion).
The film cuts to a station platform and the station name 'Gleneagles for Auchterarder' in Scotland and with the number of people on the platform this again would seem to be a steam enthusiasts gathering. A steam train stands at a platform, then with a view taken from an opposite platform further away from the engine, it pulls out of the station.
More views follow of the engine without a train as it manouevres into sidings.
A dark section follows as a train filmed from the trackside heads towards the camera.
The film cuts to a station platform at night [very dark]. Next a steam train comes through a station [Tebay] a Britannia class 4-6-2 locomotive [70031] built at Crewe but this one based in the local region, probably Carlisle.
The film cuts to a side on view of 75026 a BR4/1 class 4-6-0 filmed at Tebay. A high angle view follows overlooking the cutting where Tebay station is located, as another engine speeds through the station.
A view of engine no. 75024 follows, another Tebay based BR4/1 class 4-6-0 as it reverses through Tebay station fully loaded with mineral trucks.
A high angle view follows of another steam train of trucks as it speeds through a railway cutting. From the same vantage point a similar view with a different engine, again presumably in the Tebay area.
Change to a trackside view of engine no. 45455 a 4-6-0 Black Stanier probably working out of Carlisle, as it speeds off into the distance.
A high angle view follows of a steam passenger train traveling along an embankment.
From a station platform a view follows of a goods steam train as it goes through a station, a cut follows to a high angle general view of a goods steam train speeding through the countryside, quickly followed by another view of a steam goods train passing through a cutting and the station seen earlier.
A country landscape follows with a long distance view of a steam goods train, followed by views in an urban setting where a a steam engine reverses hauling goods wagons past a signal box.
A dark view of an engine in an engine shed(?) follows, plus a general view of the shed panning left to right.
Next a view in a country landscape and a general view of a speeding steam passenger train.
A trackside view follows of A4 No. 60007 (4498) Sir Nigel Gresley, speeding past with a passenger train, possibly a special excursion. Dark indistinct shots follow.
The film cuts to a steam engine reversing with a train of wagons, along a railway embankment. Another reversing engine pulls a brake van, along the same embankment. Another closer view follows near to an embankment as engine no. 62026 a K1, 2-6-0 possibly working out of Hartlepool, pulls past with a train of empty grey trucks. In the opposite direction engine no. 63346 an 0-8-0 Q6, pulls a train of full grey trucks.
An iconic view follows of a steam train going over a viaduct in the distance. A similar shot although much closer to the viaduct shows a train going in the opposite direction.
A general view of steam trains in the landscape follows, then a view from a station platformas a reversing locomotive no. 62005 a Gresley K1 2-6-0, pulls passenger coaches.
The film ends with a long shot of an A4 class steam train negotiating the river Tweed bridge at Berwick-upon-Tweed(?).
