A film made of the opening ceremony for a photographic exhibition taking place at the Viking Centre in Jarrow on the 15th July 1995. The exhibition displays historic images of the town and its people and was curated by Vince Rea of the Bede Gallery as part of part of the town's 150th anniversary festival. As well as the official opening by the Mayor and Mayoress of South Tyneside, the film shows people looking around and discussing the images that they see.

The film opens on views of the Viking Shopping Centre on Ellison Road in Jarrow. People walk past one of the empty units inside where there are displays of mounted photographs. As people go inside a number of posters inside the doorway and windows read ‘Jarrow 150 Years of Photographic Images. A Jarrow Festival exhibition at the Northeastern Co-Op Ellison Road Jarrow 15 July – 29th July 1995’.
A series of photographs on display in the exhibition show the town and its inhabitants in times gone by.
General views follow of people looking around the exhibition and at various photographs on display. Vince Rea stands holding a glass of wine as he speaks with a man about one of the photos.
Standing beside the Mayor of South Tyneside Councillor Mrs Maisie Stewart and Mayoress Mrs Margaret McGee, Vince Rea gives a speech to the visitors about the exhibition. Councillor Mrs Stewart then speaks to the crowd and officially opens the exhibition.
The final part of the film shows people looking around the exhibition and discussing the various photographs on display.
