TheĀ film opens in Scotland showing the pier at Tayinloan a village on the west coast of the Kintyre peninsula in Argyll and Bute. A view over a beach shows the waves breaking on seaweed strewn sands.
Two road signs follow, one for the Isle of Gigha and Achnamore Gardens, and another road sign for Tayinloan and the Gigha Ferry.
The film cuts to fishing boats at Carradale(?) a picturesque village on the east side of Kintyre, overlooking the Kilbrannan Sound and the west coast of the Isle of Arran, approximately 14 miles from Campbeltown. Out at sea sailing boats go through their paces, including one named 'Monique Marie'.
Next to Cumbria and a muddy caravan and car park at the Cumbria Steam Gathering held on the 11 September 1977. General views capture a gathering of steam traction engines and vintage cars [quite dark]. Then the film cuts to a brightly coloured merry-go-round, then to a marquee where traditional craft practitioners make and sell their wares.
Following on, sheep and lambs pose for the camera in a field, followed by general views of quarry or construction traffic, possibly in the Ullapool area.
The film cuts to general views, some in slow motion, of waves running on to the seashore. This is followed by a ferry in open water, then views of small whitewashed cottages. A view from a mountain shows Ullapool followed by general views of hillside farms and other dwellings.
More general views show flowering bulbs and azaleas in a garden. This is followed by a change of location to the coastal village of Crinan, and the Crinan Canal between Crinan and Ardrishaig in Argyll and Bute in the west of Scotland, on which we see a number of boats.
The film cuts to a craft tent at the steam gathering in Cumbria on the 30 July 1978.
The film ends with footage of St Mawes in Cornwall showing whitewashed buildings, thatched cottages and narrow streets, plus boats in the harbour, a record of a family holiday taken in 23 to 30 September 1978.
