This film by amateur filmmaker Ronald Pringle records holidays and excursions to the Scottish countryside and coast. Many destinations are within the vicinity of Glasgow, others are further afield.
The first section is of a particularly high tide and storm at Saltcoats Harbour, on the coast west of Glasgow. In a car park, caravans and lorries have water lapping around their wheels as the high tide whipped up by high winds encroaches on the sea front.
High seas pound the sea front wall. One or two marker buoys have slipped their moorings and are now marooned on the beach. A children's playground is strewn with seaborne debris. Small boats bob about in the harbour.
As the storm subsides, a technician attends to one of the beached buoys. Seaweed and other bits of rubbish cover the promenade. In the playground, children are back on the swings. Some hedges have been uprooted and lie by the roadside.
The film cuts to the tiny harbour village of Crinan, which lies on the west coast of Scotland in the regional of Argyll known as Knapdale.
Looking down on the village, boats can be seen negotiating a lock, followed by a view of mountains in the distance.
Closer to the lock, the gates open. Boats are manoeuvred into position within the lock. Onlookers look at the boats from the lock side. A view from the sea shows boats sailing from the lock to the sea.
A notice reads: 'Forestry Commission Tighnabruaich Forest', which lies due west from Glasgow.
On the coast, brief general views follow of the Gourock to Dunoon ferry. Travelling shot from a boat of a motor launch and ferry.
Gardens feature in the next sequence, firstly the Logan Botanic Gardens in Dumfries and Galloway [v. dark], then the gardens at Culzean Castle, on the coast south west of Glasgow. Visitors admire the palm plants and flowers and feed the swans on a pond. In the castle grounds, visitors sit on the lawns enjoying the sunshine while a brass band plays.
The film ends with shots of a domestic back garden crowded with flowering plants and a water feature in the form of a goldfish pond.
