This amateur compilation by filmmaker Ronald Pringle includes experiments in filming from a television screen as well as footage of a students' rag day in Glasgow, and town and country landscapes in Scotland, particularly in the Glasgow area.
[B&W] The film opens with a mixture of sports events shot from a television screen. The sports include skiing and motor racing. Broadcast archive footage shows newsreels and a report of the D-Day landing. The location switches to Liverpool and the Cavern night club where crowds flock to hear the latest Merseyside sounds. This sequence heralds a performance by Cavern regulars The Beatles performing at BBC Television studios. Some dark footage follows which is only identified by accompanying notes which describe it as a film of the Hindenburg airship disaster. Another off-air filmed item is an excerpt from the Japanese film 'Hidden Fortress'.
A 'Trip to Balloch' is next, as a view from a moving car shows a small town next to the southern tip of Loch Lomond. Two women enjoy tea and cakes in a cafe.
Next, a record of street illuminations at Christmas in Glasgow. Taken in the early evening and at night, one particularly impressive window display and brightly lit shop sign is at Muirhead's department store on Sauchiehall Street.
The next is a record of a car treasure hunt organised by Ronald Pringle's employer Hoover, which had a factory in Glasgow. In the rally, many familiar cars from the 1950's and early 60's make an appearance.
This is followed by more footage of Glasgow students' Rag Day held in the centre of Glasgow, students in fancy dress atttracting bemusement and caution in equal measure.
[Colour] Copies of colour photo transparencies are next, which were taken at Rouken Glen country park near Glasgow. One of the girls in the pictures is a Lesley Brodie.
The film captures the movement of salmon as crowds watch their migration up river at a well known salmon leap, a series of river pools called the Pots of Gartness on the Endrick Water to the west of Killearn in Stirlingshire.
Large expansive general views show mountains and lakes in the Kinlochmoidart area of mainland Scotland, just north of the Isle of Mull. The film ends with a brief sequence showing a water skier.
