An amateur film made by Maurice Clyde showing activities taking place as part of the the Vaux Own 1st Scout Troup Whit holiday camp taking place on the Vaux Estate at Brettanby Manor near Darlington. The camp was held to celebrate 60 years of Scouting.
The film begins with a group of male and female Scouts playing games in a clearing in a wood [partly out of focus]. One boy has a bloody nose.
A group of adults and children sit around an unlit fire. The fire is lit and someone in a long gown with images of a bonfire stitched on it begins to walk around it speaking to the crowd. One of the boys is wrapped in the gown. The crowd watch on intently [very dark]. Sitting on the ground around the fire a number of young boys move their arms up and town, possibly to the beat of a song that is being sung.
Around a flagpole in the clearing the troop stand to attention. One of the boys comes forward and releases a Union Jack on the flagpole. They all salute. The group bow their heads as another boy reads from a book. A third boy come to stand beside one of the leaders. The troop turns and walk away back to their tents.
A number of Scouts carry a canoe over their heads along a road while two other carry the oars and other items.
Around a campfire someone fan the flames with a plate. Another boy chops at a log with an axe [partly out of focus]. One of the boys walk along a tree trunk that is lying on the ground. Back at the campfire a number of mugs are laid out of the ground.
An older boy in a white t-shirt comes down a zip-line and lands on the ground. Another boy climbs into the harness watched by a third. The film ends with him coming down the zip-wire.
