Compilation of miscellaneous amateur film shot between 1934 and 1938 in Scotland, including footage of the Empire Exhibition, Glasgow, in 1938, and holiday trips to Arbroath, Edinburgh and other Scottish locations. Also includes brief sequences of a military parade in Newcastle upon Tyne, and rugby union matches, possibly the 1938 Home Nations Championship, with Scotland playing Ireland in Edinburgh and England at Twickenham, London. This film is probably the work of James Cameron Senior, one of the original founder members of Newcastle & District Amateur Cinematographers Association (ACA). Shot of the fish being smoked. People wait at West Links Park station where the Kerr’s Miniature Railway is running. A man backs the engine onto the train for a return trip, people packing the train for the ride. There’s a brief shot of a steam-pulled train, normal gauge. Various shots record the busy Arbroath Bathing Pool (opened only a few years before). [Colour footage] This section records colourful flowers at Leazes Park, Newcastle upon Tyne, gardeners tending flower beds, and people admiring the flowers. Brief shot of two pet dogs waiting on a doorstep. [Black and white footage] The next short sequence documents the Empire Exhibition, an international exposition held at Bellahouston Park, Glasgow, in 1938. Various shots record the fountain by the stairway steps into the park, with the Tower in background; the fountain in front of the Palace of Arts entrance; the Exhibition Tower; exterior of Palace of Engineering with a crowd in front; the row of fountains in the early evening; the Tower standing in the exhibition grounds; the main fountain; the Dominion Palace; fountains looking towards the Palace of Engineering; people silhouetted at entrance to the Scottish Pavilion. The next shots are probably of the 1938 rugby union Home Nations Championship with Scotland playing Ireland at Edinburgh on 26th February. General view of a rugby pitch before the start of a match.
