Title: Staithes: Lifeboat Weekend
Fishermen head down to their boats in Staithes harbour, carrying equipment on their heads. Equipment is covered in sacking on the boats. One of the boats is called Pilot-Me. One fisheman paints his boat.
On a misty day, children paddle on the shoreline. A boat carrying visitors on a pleasure ride comes in to land on the beach.
An official announcement by the I.N.R.I. declares the harbour festival open.
People applaud as the Lingdale Silver Band begin to play on the quayside. Children clap to the music, one young girl with a feather cut hairstyle waving to camera and her friend does the same. Various shots of the crowd follow.
Crowds are gathered on the beach in the sunshine. Small boats go in and out of the harbour carrying passengers on sea trips. The RNLI flag blows in the wind. People relax on the beach.
The band continues to play.
A motorcyclist rides his bike along the harbour wall, off the end and into the sea. This is the beginning of a sea rescue display involving a Royal Air Force helicopter, and boats from the RNLI and police divers. The motorcyclist is rescued from the sea and hoisted into the helicopter.
The Eston Grange Sea Cadets march along the seafront promenade watched by an appreciative crowd.
A high angle view of the village and bay at Staithes.
The sea cadets play bugles and drums. A shirtless man with body tattoos flexes his muscles for the camera. A dog carrying a can in his mouth wags its tail, waiting for its owner.
A small ship is moored offshore.
The sea cadets march back through the village.
Bunting crisscrosses the streets of Staithes. A few musicians play on a march through the street with the crowds to raise money for the lifeboat. A parade begins with children and some adults in fancy dress including a mermaid. The participants follow a leader carrying an RNLI flag. People at their windows watch the entertainment in the street and some throw coins into the flag. The parade continues down the street, with an ingenious Punch and Judy show costume carried by two men. A man in a fairy costume rides on a car bonnet in the parade, accidently slipping at one point. He blows kisses and shouts at the crowd. The quayside is packed with people. The children's fancy dress competition is judged.
View over the rooftops of Staithes.
People gather in the evening for the traditional candlelit Nightgown Parade. A firework and flare display lights the sky.
A rock band, the Dale Head Band, provides entertainment, strobe lights adding to the atmosphere on the seafront.
The next day, the Lingdale Silver Band provides the music for Sunday's thanksgiving service on the quayside with hymns and prayers.
An atmospheric view of Staithes follows. A rough sea batters the quayside
