An animated section showing Yorkshire appears. The Cleveland area is highlighted along the Northern edge of the North Riding. A view of terraced houses on a hill is of Park Street at Skelton Green. Followed by another shot of Lingdale, showing the backs of houses with a spoil heap in the background. the steep incline of Park Street is shown again. Title:The Population of Middlesbrough Grew Animation – From 25 in 1801 to 140,000 in 1931 An animated map shows a solitary farmhouse in 1825, just south of the River Tees, then illustrates the rapid growth of buildings. Cut to a shot of a new housing estate being built. Title: and still it grows [over map] Panoramic view of Middlesbrough. Title: These Workers Must Be Fed [ over shot of a crowd of workers] A crowd of workers leave the gondola which hangs from the Transporter Bridge and travels between Port Clarence and Middlesbrough. Overhead shot of  the crowds as they stream from the Transporter Bridge into the street. Buses wait to pick up passengers Title: And the Necessary Supplies Are Close At Hand A view follows of cows grazing. Title:  Milk Cows stand in rows in a milking parlour, preparing to be milked. Title: Bread A horse drawn harvester cuts down crops. Title: Eggs Chickens and ducks come into view in a farm yard. Title:  Meat Shots of cattle and sheep. Cattle are sold at market. A cattle lorry drives down a country road into the distance. Title: Vegetables Potato sacks are unloaded from a lorry. We later see them hanging up on a market stall. Title: Roads Were Widened and Improved This sequence includes a shot of car coming up the hill on the main road through Eston, a shot of a major trunk road and of another road with traffic. Title:  In the North the roads cross two unique bridges into Durham Views of the Newport Bridge, with bridge deck raised, as a small ship passes beneath.The  bridge deck is lowered and the safety gates are opened to allow traffic back onto the bridge. Long shot of the bridge, followed by a view of the Transporter Bridge with a fully loaded gondola. Shots of the cables and structure of the bridge. General view of the Transporter follows as the gondola travels across the river. Shots of boats and tugboats on the river, including a ship, ‘Dunedin Star’, being released from its moorings and leaving the Tees. As the camera pans across a salt derrick can be seen in the background. An animated map shows routes a ship might take from the Tees, heading to Rotterdam, Antwerp, London etc. Shots of a railway engine making its way through a heavily industrialised area, with Normanby Ironworks to the right and Cargo Fleet works to the left. Views follow of a very busy Redcar seafront, with the pier in the background. Family groups sit around on the beach with lots of young children. Children play in the sand and sample the roundabouts and swings. Young and old paddle in the sea at the shoreline. People wait to go on a motor launch called ‘Sheila’, possibly at  Whitby.
