Summary A home movie produced by Stanley Smith, one member of the vocal group ‘The Five Smith Brothers’, that features his wife Molly and daughters Linda and Lorraine. The film also features his four brothers Alfred, Harold, Martin and Royston and their extended families all staying together at a caravan site near Lytham St Anne near Blackpool and possibly Great Yarmouth during the summers seasons when the brothers were performing. Daughter Linda is filmed in horseback several times taking part in a number of events including a parade along the seafront at Lytham St Anne. A cricket match between ‘theatricals’ and locals is also recorded featuring Eric Morcombe. However, the majority of the film consists of the families relaxing around their caravans with the brothers playing a number of rounds of golf at a nearby course. |

On a terraced street Molly Smith sits her daughter Linda on the bonnet of a large car parked there (Reg: HDA 364). Other members of the Smith family come out of one of the terraced house, they pose for a photograph in the doorway. An older boy holds Linda, beside them a younger boy in school uniform reading a comic. A different car leaves, inside Linda waves.
At a fair Linda riding a children’s merry-go-round changing to her now on horseback surrounded by other children also on horses. A hand holds ups a certificate which reads ‘Lytham St Annes Annual Fete Saturday 27th August 1955. First Prize’. Along the seafront a parade of decorative floats and costumed children, some on horseback.
On a show field three young women in long dresses walk past slowly towards a raised platform watched by a crowd, several trophies and shields sit on a nearby table. On the stage one of the women is crowned followed by a parade of costumed children on horseback. Prized are given out to some of the competitors.
At a caravan site, children watching a small monkey play changes to a cricket grounds and a large crowd watch as men in whites come out of the pavilion onto the pitch. One of those come out is English comedian John Eric Bartholomew, better known by his stage name Eric Morcombe. A cigarette hangs from his mouth as he walks past tosses a cricket ball in the air. Players from both sides stand around chatting before heading out to the stumps to begin a game. A woman in a white comes over and acts as the umpire. An older couple smile at the camera, wives and children of those play watch nearby.
Beside a white building at the caravan park Linda sits in a toy pedal car changes to another country show where children on horseback are paraded around a showground. Stan, Molly and Linda walk along a gravel driveway with Linda wearing riding gear, on her back the number 45.
[Over exposed] A group of men play a round of golf, four of them stand together at the start of a new hole, behind them a passenger train passing along a railway line.
Molly holds younger daughter Lorraine beside the family caravan while Linda runs around and play nearby. Linda sits on horseback changes to Molly collecting dried washing from a line in front of her caravan. In a playground a group of children, including Linda, sit on a rocking seesaw followed by Linda riding past on horseback. In the sky above the caravan site several aircraft come into land at a nearby airfield.

Molly and Linda wearing a red dress walk around their caravan changes to two men reading a newspaper. Inside their caravan Linda playing with a balloon, outside Linda stands beside a car. A woman in red bloomers makers her way into her caravan, she re-appears with two small monkeys which Linda plays with.
In a pool or in the sea Stan plays with daughter Lorraine who is sitting in a rubber ring in the shape of a horse, Molly comes over and joins them. Back at the caravan site a woman lays sunbathing on the ground, a man comes over with a milk churn and pretends to pour the content over her. Linda plays nearby, she sticks her head through a life-sized cut out of a woman in a bikini. Four men stand beside a car smiling, Molly walks past towards her caravan wearing a green dress. A man in clown makeup plays with Linda followed by Linda trotting around the caravan site in horseback.
Outside a church the extended Smith family gather for a christening, a close up of the baby in its mother’s arms. Linda and another girl the same age hold hands. Linda and Lorraine run up and down the pavement outside the church.
A group of men playing another round of golf. Each of them men practice their swing for the camera, at the end Linda holding a club attempts to take a swing. A passenger train passes along a nearby track.
At the caravan site a boy in shorts plays with a toy car, Linda looks out from the family caravan making funny faces in the glass. Stan rides a bicycle in a circle outside the garage near his caravan, Linda sits in the basket. A man in overalls looks over Linda’s tricycle after which he watches her ride it with a second tricycle attached to the back and a Scotty dog sitting on the seat.
