This is an amateur documentary made by Jack Eley about a trip by boat along the River Bure. An audio commentary by Eley explains the history of the places visited. Title: 'A Norfolk River' 'A film survey of the River Bure produced in Kodachrome by John. S. Eley' The film opens with a small sailing boat on Breydon Waters on the Norfolk Broads. Located on a boat, the film makes its way across Great Yarmouth harbour towards the River Bure, by-passing Breydon Swing Bridge (just a year before it closed), Wayford Bridge and then Stokesby village. Some boats are moored outside a small provisions store, 'Curtis'. There are sailing boats going down the river and windmills on the surrounding fields, followed by tall reeds along the river sides. The film then shows the remains of the Abbey of St Benets of Holm, and as it moves away, men are shown fishing on the banks of the river. The boat passes South Walsham broad and the two churches of St Mary and St Lawrence in South Walsham, the latter with its tower intact before it collapsed. The journey continues down the river showing the surrounding woods and houses. Other sailing boats and power boats pass by before it reaches Horning and the Horning Ferry Inn, followed by the moorings on the side of the river and some splendid long boats with large single sails, including 'The Albion'. The journey continues showing the surroundings as it flows into Wroxham Broad where there are many sailing boats and riverside plots. As it passes Jack Powles Ltd. there are many wooden boats moored. A teenage girl is led down on the deck of the boat, and then steering. The journey next passes St Peter's Church at Belaugh, and then a young boy is shown at the steering wheel before the film comes to an end at Coltishall Common.
