A comprehensive amateur travelogue through the rural and urban landscape of Northumberland and Tyne and Wear filmed by Vic Cross. [Reel 1] Title: Neither England Nor Scotland. Filmed by Vic Cross. The travelogue begins on moorland at the source of the River Tyne.There are general views of Deadwater Station, part of the Northumberland National Park, the Kielder Burn and Kielder Castle. A sign identifies Border Forest Park at Lewisburn. General views follow of the village of Bellingham, the George Hotel at Chollerford, Housesteads Roman Fort and surrounding landscape around Hadrian's Wall. A woman walks along the wall. Next, there are general views of the Boat Inn and the village of Warden, a diesel passenger train travels along a railway line, the town of Hexham including the abbey and market, Blanchland and Corbridge, Bywell Castle and the parish church of St Peter's, a signal box and railway line at Wylam and George Stephenson's birthplace at Wylam. The film cuts to Newcastle upon Tyne and general views of both the new Scotswood road bridge under construction, the old Scotswood Chain Bridge being demolished and the mural on the side of the Robin Adair Pub in Scotswood. Various general views around Newcastle follow including the Town Wall, The Cathedral Church of St Nicholas, The Keep and Black Gate, Amen Corner, pedestrians and traffic travelling up and down Pilgrim Street and Northumberland Street, the Newcastle University campus and the nearly completed Civic Centre, Leazes Park and Jesmond Dene, The People's Theatre in Jesmond, the Guild Hall, New Tyne Bridge and Quayside, including Bessie Surtees House. Travelling shots follow from a ferry ride along the River Tyne featuring the Spillers' Tyne Mill and Swan Hunters shipyard where the Esso Northumbria is being fitted out in 1969. Other ships are under construction in dry docks and a Royal Navel ship is being fitted out at Vickers-Armstrong shipyards. The boat travels on towards North Shields where there is a view of the Humber light ship. Tynemouth Priory appears on the cliffs towards the mouth of the Tyne. Back on dry land, there are general views of Tynemouth including the Priory and people sitting on the cliffs watching a ship travel out to sea, Tynemouth open air pool as well as King Edward's Bay and the Tynemouth Longsands. A woman sells seafood from the entrance of a E. Goddards shop beside the Ship Hotel. Next, there are general views of Cullercoats and Whitley Bay including the dome at Spanish City. In the next sequence, there are general views of the exterior of Seaton Delaval Hall, a view of the terminal at Newcastle Airport, the village of Ponteland, Wallington Hall and the village of Cambo nearby, and the village of Elsdon. The first reel of this travelogue ends with views of Carter Bar on the Scottish Border. [Reel 2] The second reel begins with general views of the village of Ford and the Etal Estates showing the parish church and ornate gardens. General views of the village and harbour at Cresswell. This is followed by views of Warkworth Castle and Warkworth village. General view of an imposing lion statue on the bridge at Alnwick Castle, home of the Dukes of Northumberland, and the busy town centre at Alnwick.
