Inside a busy restaurant patrons are squeezed around small tables, on the walls around them many celebrity portrait photographs. Around one tables four of the Five Smith Brothers and their wives enjoying a meal. One of the women holds up a photograph showing a woman and baby, a waitress walks over carrying two cups of tea. An older couple stand behind a counter, the woman counts money beside a cash register. More people stand around squeezed between the gaps between tables, the brothers and their wives chat happily amount themselves before posing for the camera all smiles.
[Out of focus] Molly Smith uses a pair of scissors to cut a piece of cloth, she sees the camera and smiles. She sits smiling at a table, a hand comes over and attempts to poke her nose, she sticks her tongue out. One of the Smith brothers plays up to the camera taking a cigarette out of a case. As he lights the cigarette one of his other brothers appears behind him drying his face with a towel.
Three men, possibly Smith Brothers, stand with another man with dwarfism posing in front of the camera drunkenly. One of the men holds a bottle, the man with dwarfism licks his lips on seeing it. One of the brothers wraps his arms around Molly kissing her on the lips, she laughs and smiles.
Outside the Marsden Grotto near South Shields a group of men and women stands together. The camera pans up and down the cliff lift shaft following the counterweight, in the near distance Marden Rock. Jokingly six men line up outside the grotto and come to attention as if in the army. Another man runs past at stands at the front, all seven men tun in unison walking away all with different silly walks, they then begin to dance in pairs. Back in line again they turn and walk past each of them with their hands on the shoulders on the man in front. Waves crashing on the beach changes to two of the Smith brothers with their wives.
[Out of focus] The face of a young man believed to be Frankie Howerd stares into the camera, two men sit chatting nearby. A group of men in bowties and dinner jackets stand around in a dressing room chatting, on seeing the camera they stop talking and pose. A young Frankie Howerd sees the camera and smiles, standing behind him Tommy Trinder who talks to the cameraperson.
A couple standing in the shadow’s changes to two of the men above walking along a corridor in a theatre. Some of the men stand in the wings beside the stage, one man takes off his glasses to clean them speaking to someone off camera. Performing on stage a man riding a bicycle in circles, attached to the bike a frame on which a woman spins. In a doorway backstage two men stand talking changing to a woman in glasses. Back on stage the woman seen previously spinning now rides a unicycle, her partner now rides on one wheel of his bicycle. They perform together various tricks for an unseen audience.
On a wall a poster for the Hippodrome Brighton where The Five Smith Brothers are top billing alongside Betty Driver, Bernard Miles and Wilson Keppel and Betty. In an alleyway two boys play fight, the older boy spinning the young one around. Three of the brothers stand beside the poster, one uses a handkerchief to clean their name on it. [Dark] Two of the brothers come out of the alley onto a busy road.
Three of the Smith brothers look at a display of film projectors and cameras in a shop along East Street in Brighton. They walk along the pavement outside the Queen’s Hotel, one carrying a suitcase and another holding what appears to be a rifle wrapped in paper.
At a table a woman butters a piece of bread, next to her an older woman chopping a tomato in half and eating it. Around the table the Smith brothers enjoys cups of tea and sandwiches served to them by the women. Now standing the older woman proceeds to perform and blow raspberries at the camera.
Beside a fire a young child sits on a bowl of water having a bath, two older children stand around helping watched over by the older woman seen previously. Molly and Stan Smith sit nearby.
From the back of an auditorium a man and woman perform together on stage, she sings while he plays the piano. They dance of stage together before exiting stage right.
