Title: Grenfell Youth Club A painting or mosaic changes to a sign on a door for the Grenfell Youth Club. In a workshop a young man with Down Syndrome uses a hand drill to drill a hole into a piece of wood, another young man with long hair and red shirt stands beside him watching. Nearby another young man with Down Syndrome is also working with wood using a hammer. In an office three young men paint a wooden wheelbarrow in red. In a kitchen area a couple stands beside a fridge and counter area. Another woman helps the man pour Golden Syrup from the can into a pan on an electric stove using a wooden spoon. Nearby the woman mixes flour and other dry ingredients in a bowl with a plastic spatula. The heated Golden Syrup is poured into the mixture and stirred. On the counter the couple make balls from the mixture placing them onto a baking tray. A full tray is put into an oven, three more women work to make more biscuits which are also put into the oven. The original two women work together to do the washing up. The biscuits now done are removed from the oven, and eaten by a group of men and women including those who had done the cooking. In another room women of various ages sit around tables playing games of dominos, nearby a man and woman play table-tennis. Leaning against a countertop a boy plays a Stylophone while a game of snooker is played on a small table. A Conga-line dances around a room, a young man with Down Syndrome dances on the spot. A woman with a whistle in her mouth leads a group in a rendition ‘Head, Shoulders Knees and Toes’. A line of mainly older women begins to dance on the spot, their knees rising high into the air. Two women sit against the wall, one of them picks up a telephone receiver. Around the hall space people dance in couples and in a group. In another room a man works on a mosaic using different types of varnished wood. The image is of a camel in the desert. Back in the hall the dancing continues with people dancing on their own or in pairs. Another conga-line snakes around the room. A man waves his arms in the air along to the music. Title: Hallowe’en Party Two men with their hands behind the backs bite into apples hanging from string. A woman bob for apples in a plastic bowl, a crowd standing around her watching. A man bobs for an apple, a pair of hand holding his face in the water. A candle inside a turnip lantern head, another man bobs for apples followed by a woman. Three men attempt to bite into apples hanging from string, two apples fall to the floor. A silhouette of a witch hangs from a wall, another turnip lantern head is followed by people dancing some in pairs, others on their own. Two boys play a game of table-football while others dance together as a group. Standing to the side the man with Down Syndrome seen previously continues to dance on the spot happily. A group of women dance together in a circle. Title: Christmas Party A young man holds up a paper lantern, on a table nearby two women make another. In the corner of the room a decorated Christmas tree. People dance together in a hall while a few men stand at a bar enjoying non-alcoholic drinks. Two young men hang decorations from the ceiling, nearby an older woman dances by herself. People continue to enjoy drinks by the bar or dance some with batons. On a small stage a man holds a microphone, he throws darts at a dartboard. Working in pairs and holding hands a game of ‘musical chairs’ with couples walking around two chairs which the dive onto, still holding hands, when the music stops. On stage a performance of the Nativity with various young men and women in home-made costumes. A doll wrapped in white sits in a crib. Around the room everyone enjoys plates of ‘pie & peas’ followed by more dancing. A man dressed as Santa Claus hands out present to the crowd gathered around him. Sitting around tables people begin to open their presents including one man in a wheelchair who smiles happily. The film ends with Santa waving goodbye.
