Views of the ship in dry dock. Views of the crowd and dignitaries arriving, the launch speech, and finally views of the ship descending down the slipway into the River Tyne. This is followed by shots recording the reactions of the crowd and dignitaries, then the dignitaries departing, and views of the ship floating in the river being oriented by tug boats.
The film is enlivened by the fact that the ship is launched by two teenage sisters who are delighted and excited to be part of the event. They enthuse a bank of press photographers, and also a Movietone News cameraman.
