A woman presents the price with a rose, he shakes her hand and places the flower into the buttonhole on his jacket.
Accompanied by Alan Kilburn and others the Prince chats with some of the crowd who have been waiting including a young couple with their baby. As he makes his way along a garden path the Prince waves at the crowd and speaks with a group of older women standing in the garden next door. The Royal car pulls up along Northbourne Street and the Prince gets out. Outside the house the Prince speaks with some of the spectators standing in the street, he shakes hands with others and is presented with several gifts. As he walks away, he is asked by BBC Look North reporter Tony Baker about his impressions of what he has seen that morning. He is enthusiastic about the transformative work being done by housing associations such as North Housing in areas such as Elswick creating something like a ‘village community’. He believes they are important as they can help to unleash the potential talents of people living in these areas.
